Al is the must see play this summer. The idea that The Feminine Mystique is still being explored in the 21st century is ludicrous, as Betty Friedan defined in 1963: “the problem that has no name.” You will meet Al, a millennial woman trying to find the fine line between being obedient to the undermining of women’s intelligence or use the head on her shoulders for far more than housework. Al battles with her own stream of consciousness in order to survive in what her world has become.
On one shoulder, there is Al who represents her obedient side that would never betray what her husband says, then there is Alyssa who represents the independent feminist who knows she should be standing up for herself. There is no one else to judge and no one else to interrupt. It is just her and herself. Husband vs wife. Family vs career. Al vs. Alyssa.
